ANNA’S EYE-WATERING FLAPJACK

Now, flapjack recipes are a dime a dozen on the Internet, so I took this one from the good old BBC and adapted it a bit to include the honey, raisins, chocolate and cashews (I’ve put measurements for these but you can just add them in whatever quantities you like). I initially made this by replacing the sugar with honey, but this made for a very squidgy flapjack, so I’ve left the sugar in here and just added a bit of honey for extra sweetness!

Lyle’s Lion …
One a slightly off-topic note: Am I the only one who’s ever wondered about the picture of a fly-ridden lion’s corpse on the front of a Lyle’s Golden Syrup tin? And the line “Out of the strong came forth sweetness”? I found it morbidly fascinating as a child and still think it’s odd to this day. Turns out it’s from the Book of Judges in the Old Testament and is known as Samson’s Riddle: ‘Out of the eater, something sweet; out of the strong, something sweet.’ (Judges 14:14, NIV)
